SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS |

There are many children
whose parents have lost their livelihoods through the tsunami
and are struggling to pay even the modest amount for schooling.
The Fund has started by helping a few families and Barry &
Christiane have let it be known that they are willing to help
many more. They feel that this is a particularly valuable way
of spending the money.

A Scholarship at the Phuket Vocational
College is 10,000 Baht a year (₤200) (€225) (US$295) and the
students usually stay 3 years before either taking a two year
diploma at 16,000 Baht a year (₤325) (€355) (US$470) or going
onto university where the costs are between 20,000 & 30,000 Baht
a year.
Patrons are sent annual reports and are
generally kept informed about their student. The students are
selected by the College Welfare Officer and a scholarship can
make all the difference to being able to complete an education
or having to drop out through lack of money.
New Patrons are always needed and my E-Mail

SCHOLARSHIP
PARTY MAY 2009

Ten Pin Bowling was a big success last year but was the first
time anyone had done it before and by popular request we had another
go this year. This time the competition was much hotter.
Here Tippawan Bua-In, Daruwan, Suthaporn, Amornrat & Tippawan
Yonsang are weighing up the bowls before the action starts.
|
Jaroenporn, who is the only boy we have at
the Phuket Vocational College, was in the winning team both
games last year.
Here he is with Anthika, Naruemon & Sutiporn
which turned out to be the winning team again in the first
session.
|
 |
|
Home for lunch
By popular request everybody wanted to come back to my house for
lunch.
They certainly punished the food and doing their own cooking on the
barbeque was a big success as was making their own Thai papaya salad
in a bowl. That dish can blow your mind.
|
Swimming
Only Jaroenporn, Sirirat & Hathaichanok can
actually swim, but it doesn‘t matter in my pool which is very
shallow at one end and in any case they can all wear swimming
buoyancy vests.
Mekkhala, Sirirat, Tippawan Y, & Jidra are
pictured.
|

|
|
|
Relaxing
Hathaichanok & Amornrat are having a quiet chat and put on lovely
smiles for the camera.
Amornrat did not want to swim because last time she failed to secure
her vest between her legs and she dropped out the bottom and got a
big scare. |

|
Group photo
Everybody posed for the final photo, students, teachers & helpers
and a request has been made already for next year for a trip on the
boat. I will have to coerce another boat owner to join in as I am
not buying a bigger boat!
